the one year

iam been neglecting this blog like someone that neglects something very badly..
after multiple requests i feel more that obliged to share whats been happening here

so
- PhD is doing alright i guess..the one year completion requires to write a document with a literature review and a description of whats been doing so far..so i spent a lot of time doing that as well as doing a presentation that ill do in the beginning of next year
- to make a little bit of extra cash i vigilate exams during two weeks..it is probably the easiest job in the world and it doesnt pay that bad! so it is a good help to pay for those expensive flights
- last month i went camping with the male population from church...we went to stradbroke island and camp right in the sand , 40 meters from the water! the spot was amazing..food was awesome..surf was alright..weather was not great..sitting by the fire with a view to the ocean made everything just awesome!

also went to a mumford and sons concert! was good..but i guess i was expecting more..more crazy folk! it continues to amaze me though how they can produce that sound most of the times without a drumkit..just the guitar, bass and banjo

also was responsible to film a wedding by myself..steve..the guy who basically started this filming stuff was the best man at the wedding and couldnt of course film. so i made some money and had a great time...just waiting for steve to edit it and then ill share here!

-  last weekend went camping with the young adults from church..such a good time! the preacher was really challenging and it was another good chance to get to know people a little bit better..it is crazy that a whole year has passed and looking back to this camp last year where i didnt knew anyone!

- and very soon iam moving out of this place! the owners want to rent this to a family so they will give us the boot! but it is amazing how the Lord God has been good once more..basically i always wanted to move close to the beach but this house is close to the uni, has laundry and washing machine and it is very comfortable specially now that i have a massive room with aircon..also i didnt knew anyone to move with so i was just waiting..the fact that my house mates are all moving next year didnt help with me wanting to stay here..two weekends ago i met a dude at church than wanted to find a place..but i was still hesitating because it would be risky..i mean i would loss the chance to stay in this place and signing a lease means dealing with a lot of money..but in this hesitation i found today that no matter what i gotta move..so it is def a confirmation that well..gotta make the effort to live close to the ocean!

-  in two weeks i will be home! Christmas with the family..seemed so far away last year..so close now!

the biomechanics lab

so last week i had a full week of lab teaching..this time was more into biomechanics which made things a bit more interesting..still surprises me the low knowledge level of this uni students! anyways it was pretty fun because i had to teach 10 labs of basically the same so after the 2nd or 3rd everything start to be the same..same jokes, same sentences..funny to be on the other side..imagining the students after the lab: "damn that guy was such a fool"

all of the rest is falling into place...got a new cheap surfboard a week ago.tried out this weekend and loved it. a bit smaller bit thicker which adds a bit more flotation and speed. sunday 7.30 am i was getting some really nice A frame waves!
ticket home is bought for Christmas! iam travelling with China Southern/Air France..maybe some "clepes" on board??
i think I shared this but our church is organizing a fortnight meal for uni students at the uni village..today was the 4th meal but we are having some unexpected good things coming out of it..some of the students have been showing up at church or hanging out with us! God has been good!

the return

so I had a very special time travelling NSW and in Portugal! seeing your faces was wonderful..APEC was great.."santarem foi a placidez"
this time i flew with emirates: lisbon-dubai, dubai-brisbane..the planes were basically the same ( 777) but the conditions were quiet different..the second trip was much better..food was better and entertainment was better! i think iam getting used to this long flights..jetleg only affects me the next two days around 8.30pm..easy!

good morning Australia

the new project

so exciting times..my family is within days to arrive in Australia! in a couple of weeks ill start my holidays and we will travel south to Sydney..travelling the NSW coast will be fantastic with a lot of spots to visit and alot of waves to surf..just for this trip i bought a big board so all of us can have a lot of fun..hopefully i can sell it in sydney..then we will all travel together to Portugal and gladdly ill have their company during the trip..iam so excited to go back to the old continent and review my family and friends..also ill be involved in a christian summer camp and iam sure God will have big big plans for those days!

on another note iam involved in an awesome project with a group of people from the church..those who know me also know how passionate iam about movies and about making them..so we are trying to start some project with film and music and hopefully i can get fully involved! and once the PhD is done..who knows..so here is some pics of the first project..iam not much involved in this one so i was just there to help and to learn. the idea is to explore the concept of Jesus being the light in a dark world..and iam not going to spoil it anymore..

recent events

my lack of commitment with this blog is drastic..i have to admit..i've been very lazy and rarely remember that i started this to keep my friends and family informed! my sincere apologies!
and because " para o meu tio paulo é o que ele quiser" i will update some posts and pics.

last few months have been what i usually call standard..work has been going alright i guess..i started my experimental procedures for the first part of my studies that is basically getting mris. After some enquiries i got a good deal with a clinic in the Gold Coast..the advantage of this clinic is basically their 3T machine (some information for my nerdy friends) and it is the best machine in Australia at the moment...the radiologist iam working with is very interested in research and has been a precious help...
regarding work..there is slight possibility of me visiting Stanford University and Auckland University in a near future...it would be awesome not just to do a little travel but to start having some contacts in the biomechanics world

surf has been good! last month there was a period of about 3 weeks with very good waves for a beginner like me! one morning i went to the beach before work..i cant explain what happened properly! it is too good to be put in words..something like..warm water ( although it is already winter)..glassy ocean..very clean waves coming right at me..nobody there to get in my waves..just me and the ocean with a great view over the trees and the city in the back ground! just a regular tuesday morning in australia..and now that i have a mobile with a decent camera there is no excuse not to share pictures with all of you

after my birthday my family and some friends sent me a very special present! thank you all! it was very special! 

the sunshine easter

my internet has been really slow for the last weeks so i havent had the chance to publish anything here
so much has happened and i cant tell you everything..maybe images will speaker louder than words..
again the redmans were like family and i had the change to visit them and brisbane city!

the phots will show a little bit of central brisbane with that famous city beach right in the center of southbank..the visit to the city hall that is being remodelled! an amazing view over the city from mount coo-tha and so on! enjoy!
