the christmas

so Christmas this year was a little bit different...i had to stay at the Gold Coast. the trip is indeed to long and I was not in the mood for that..at least before the 24th..after that i almost regreat it. but although I was away from my family and friends i had a good time. Xmas day I went to church in the morning and then I had a lovely lunch with the Youth Pastor's family..they basically saved me from a lonely xmas! ( and offered me presents as well!!)

I got to say that xmas food here cannot be compared with ours! not in a millions years..although i had a good lunch ( noodle salad, cold meats, prawns and ice cream cheesecake for desert) our "bacalhau", "filhós", "leitao" ou "cabrito" are so much better!
but i gotta say the weirdest thing is for sure the weather! xmas in my mind is associated with cold and snow...santa in his big suit..the trees covered with snow..the snowman! hot xmas??? shorts and flipflops?? beach ( apart from the possibility of going to the beach) it is just too strange...

so now i can say i spent xmas at a foreign country and almost on my own..but i will be praying next year i can go home!! it was good but honestly i dont want it again..however it is funny how God does His thing! last year i had that problem with the snow at the UK and i couldnt imagine spending xmas alone..but i think that time i had prepared me for this year and i was much more in peace and relaxed!

again i dont have any pictures because i am waiting for my xmas present..i will gather all the "xmas money" + some of my own and i am buying a proper camera! so give me probabily 2 months and i will have quality pics here ( i hope =))

p.s- although it is on my fb i am selling my Canon Xm2 and wide converter! so if you are interested or know someone you can be contact me!

at the redmans

last weekend i had the previlege to visit the redmans at their place up in brizi! ( thats right! as mentioned before it is an aussie thing...brizi stands for brisbane)
the redmans are this lovely australian couple that i meet through my old pal Jose de Cota Arrais! redmans daughter is working his church in Lisbon and I meet her and her husband in Lisbon before I came here

if you want some more facts about the australians here is one for you: they care! they love and they will receive you in their homes...they will pick you up even if far away from their place and show you around! thats is right...it is something that it is still missing in us as portuguese... as far as i am aware we are well known for being harm and good "anfitrioes" ( didnt care to look on google translator =P)..but we have this resistance to give the first step..to put a hand in the shoulder and say :" hey! you are new here right? my name is dsndofinsdcionsd..how are you?"
generally we need to see someone several times to have the courage to do that..but i gotta tell you..the first time is the charm..not the third!

anyway..I had a great time in their place..got to know a little bit of brisbane..specially the city center..as the cities are fairly new here they had the opportunity to plan it with order and space. so the buildings are well organized with modern and old architecture..different styles..green spaces..amazings palm trees and gum trees close to the roads..parking spaces..like Alfama!
brisbane is well spread out and it takes ages to get from the suburbs to the city center..this is very aussie

sorry i dont have any pics..didnt had the opportunity..but ill go there several times so no need to rush!

p.s- one of redmans son was telling about his trip to portugal...our pastel de belem/nata is the food for the foreigners! he is not the first to say how good it is! so next time you are having one just remember :" 2 seconds in my mouth..all my life in my hips" and "this is too good..iam having another one" and "there are so many foreigners that come here just for this..and i just have to cross the street"

p.s 2- (this is so jingle=)) to compensate the lack of pics i will give you a better present

the flowing money

for the first time in my life ( for some people this is not good...) i have received something in paper ( however directed to my bank account) as a reward for a month work! it feels good! oh yeah it does..not only because i have my own money but because it allows me to make may own decisions based on what i can or cant afford!
although i had always counted with my parents and was almost never denied to buy something...in the last years i was having a strange feeling when i needed something and had to ask for money...but i think it is normal..i was 24 and was depending on someone elses decision and money!

so the first thing i bought with it...my own christmas gift!
it was sold out for the 3 days he is playing is brisbane and i was having a bad time..."so close...why didnt i checked it early??? why? why?"
but then a brilliant idea...ebay.com.au! thank you lill_misssteph! ahah

it has been posted but i dont have it yet...

the new home

last thursday i moved out of university village to 6 Peter Senior Court in Parkwood!
finally i would say as i didnt even unpacked my stuff at the village and i didnt felt i was at home. here i have a space of my own..a small room but in a nice house. it has 4 rooms..3 small ones and one room for an entire family ( cant believe own big is that other room..anyway it is more expensive so..)..2 toilets/bathrooms and a big living/dining room with a kitchenet...oh and a pool outside!
the hood is pretty good...very relaxed and green where people sleep wth their doors open ( every door has a net to prevent bugs from coming in although it didnt stop that cockroach yesterday ( hope my mom skips this part ihihi))!
it is a little bit farther away from the uni..but not a big difference!
the good thing is that the house belongs to a couple from church and it is being managed by another couple from church that live next door...so i will have company and people hanging here! for now i am alone in here but probabily two guys will be moving in soon!
and i will leave you with some pics from the house...

my room...

window view when lying in bed

the living room

the spot!

the pool

just an ausssie curiosity! they have this habit of not saying the entire word..like Davi Resina! eheh
so they say breaky instead of breakfast...devo instead of devotional..anyway you get the idea! it can be hard for an international cus sometimes you have no idea what they just said...

p.s- if you want me to publish something about australia or the aussies please tell!=)

camping aussie style

last weekend i went camping with the young adults of Southport Church of Christ
i was not thinking about going as i only went once to that church but the youth pastor sent me an email and i made up my mind and went!
we went to this camping place 1h30 south of Gold Coast in a place called flat rock...it is basically in the beach only separated by some bushes. the camp was good with almost new toilets opened with a code
the group had almost 40 people and the preacher was this couple from melbourne..the guy has a band called selahphonic and roads around the country doing gigs (a mixture of music and video) and preaching! amazing thing is that he has a withered hand but he rocks the guitar and surfs!
the weather was good almost all of the time and the beach was a good surfing spot...but because iam a beginner i stayed close to the small waves which happed to be the place where the current was stronger dragging me to a non-wave spot..terrible! oh and by the way it was a beach without lifeguards but no sharks on sight!

before the camp i visited a couple that used to went to this church...they are living in an amazing house in a high point near lennox beach ( one of the best surfing spots in australia). the house belonged to a drug addict that was owning the bank big time..so they took her house! it is only worth 4 million....

anyway..the camp was a very blessed time..i got to meet some new mates..one of the guys was in l'abri 3 years ago! such a small world!
